Gabriel “Gabe” Lamakuokanaauao Kenzo Mercado, 10, of Volcano died May 16 at Hilo Medical Center. He was born in Hilo. John Edward Parker, 75, of Hilo died Monday at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center. Born in Chicago, he was a retired software designer. He was also a jazz musician and bass player for various bands in Hilo. Friends may call from 4-6 p.m. Saturday at the Hilo Town Tavern for a memorial gathering. Casual attire; no flowers. Survived by wife, Judith Zeichner of Hilo; daughter, Laura (Rick Rataj) Parker of Redding, Calif.; sister, Amy Parker of New York; one granddaughter. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.

Earle Jack Dye, Jr., 72, of Waimea died Saturday. Born in Honolulu, he was a rancher, retired Honolulu police officer, and retired director of security at Mauna Kea Beach Resort. He attended Imiola Congregational Church, was a member of the Makule League and a member of the State of Hawaii Organization of Police Officers. Friends may call at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 1 at Imiola Congregational Church for an 11 a.m. celebration of life. Private scattering of ashes to follow. David Kalauli Pauole, 71, of Keaau died April 30 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Kailua-Kona, he was a former waiter and busboy at Hukilau Hotel. He was a coffee, ginger and papaya farmer and member of Kuakahela, Kealohapauole and the Kaawa Kalauli ohana. Friends may call at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 30 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel for a 5 p.m. funeral service. Friends may also call at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 1 at the old airport, end of runway in Kailua-Kona for a prayer service; inurnment at 11 a.m. at the Holualoa Catholic Cemetery. Survived by brother, Edwin (Rebecca) Paulole of Kailua-Kona; caregivers, Imedgio and Estela Ellazar and their ohana of Keaau, and Leslie Ann Ellazar of Honolulu; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Joseph Nicholas Castelli, 86, of Kailua-Kona died May 17 at his residence. Born in Boston, he was a retired advanced engineering specialist for GTE Sylvania and veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He served as president of the Surf and Racquet Club board, was past director of Pulama Ia Kona, was a member of the Kona Historical Society, St. Michael’s Catholic Church and Kona Hiking Club, was a Kona town historian and was active in preserving the Hawaiian culture. Friends may call at noon Tuesday at the West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery in Kailua-Kona for a graveside service. Tregar Misrasrik Tinteru, 69, of Pahala died April 21 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Kosrae, Micronesia, he was a heavy equipment operator. Private services held. Survived by fiancee, Anna Cariaga of Pahala; sisters, Diana (Siosi) Aliksa and Donna (Kurt) Penrose, both of Kona; brothers, Tobias Tinteru and Tarzan Tinteru, both of Marshall Islands; numerous nieces and nephews. Robert Jacobs Kaaimoku Roy of Waimea was also survived by sister-in-law, Jane Roy of Kailua-Kona. Her name was omitted in Roy’s obit published May 9.
